Inauguration of Matsya Narayana Temple – Uthandi, Chennai

Date : 27 May 2015

In the Birth Centenary Year of Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji, Chinmaya Tarangini was inaugurated by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayanandaji on 24th May, 2015 at Uthandi, Chennai.

Speaking at the Mahasamprokshanam of the Sri Matsyanarayana Dhyana Niketan, Pujya Guruji said that the land in which the temple has come up was donated to the Chinmaya Mission over 25 years ago. Now that this temple has come up that we know Matsya Bhagavan has chosen this place to live here in the special year of the centenary.

Guruji said that in the Bhagavatham there is one chapter devoted to the Matsya Avatara and there is a whole Matsya Purana that tells the story and teachings of Matsya. It is very apt particularly for this age that we have this temple because it is the Vaivasvata Manvantra or the reign of the Manu Vaivasvata. When there was a cosmic deluge, Vaivasvata Manu or Satyavrata was informed by the divine fish of the great deluge. It asked Manu to build a big ship and asked to put the seeds of creation in the ship. When the deluge finally came as predicted, the fish told Satyavrata to tie the ship to its horn and they continued to swim in the waters of the deluge together.

This story only goes to say that Matsya Avatar is that of the Guru and it is very apt indeed that this temple is part of the project for Gurudev’s birth centenary celebrations, Pujya Guruji said.

Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda, Swami Shantananda, Swamini Gangananda and Swami Mitrananda were present at the Kumbhabhishekam.
