TEMPLES & SHRINES

Gurudev said, "a temple is that which gives an atmosphere for the human mind to quieten itself into the contemplation of the higher Reality".

  • Name of Deity: Lord Subrahmanya
  • Location: Athiyambur, Kanhangad, Kerala
  • Temple donated to Chinmaya Mission in 1984

It is said that Lord Adi Subrahmanya underwent penance for years at this place to gather strength to slaughter Tarakasura and thus the place got its name Athiyambur.

This age-old temple and premises spanning 2 acres and 55 cents were donated to the Chinmaya Mission by Sri Sreedhara Pisharadi. It was renovated in 1986 and later a new Gopuram was installed and inaugurated in November 1997 by Swami Tejomayananda.

Many women gather on Mondays to observe Somavaravratam. In recent times, Chinmaya Mission conducts spiritual classes for these women observing Somavaravratam and provides them a noon-meal at the temple.

The newly constructed Dhyana Mandir can accommodate nearly 300 persons.
